Broward County Public Schools located in Broward County, Florida, hosts an annual competition every year where almost 50 Public, Private and Charter schools participate.
There is an annual theme each year that is established by the National History Day Competition Staff – this year’s theme is "Rights and Responsibilities".
Students ask questions about time, place and context, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance. Students have to consider not only when and where events happened, but also why they occurred, and what factors contributed to their development. Students describe their topic and then further develop it through analysis, drawing conclusions about how the topic influenced and was influenced by people, ideas, or events. Students work alone or in a group, and select and conduct research about a topic that is related to National History Day’s annual theme. After gathering and analyzing primary and secondary resources, students present their findings in a performance, documentary, website, historical paper, or exhibit.
